Even worse memory I thought. Isn’t this 18gbps while the 7800xt has 19.5gbps? Same 256 but bus, though.

Not even. It would’ve been an upgrade from 7800 XT if that was the case. It’s actually using slower memory so it has less bandwidth than 7800 XT.

I was thinking about getting a 6950xt (635€) for my new PC, since I won’t be doing a lot of heavy-load gaming and last-gen is just fine, but now I have doubts…

I have the card because I bought an upgrade pack (MB, processor, RAM, gpu) from a German website. They were transparent about the prices of the single components and listed the 7900GRE at 600€ so I bought it over the 7800xt which was at roughly the same price at the time of my purchase :)

7800 XT is 475 USD in Germany (540€ after VAT)

The 7900 GRE actually got 10% SLOWER memory than the 7800 XT, but more cores. 5% faster and 0-10% more efficient than the 7800 XT.
    At 720€ (635 USD) it’s very overpriced.

Do they actually use different memory or just clocked down? If the memory chips are identical hypothetically you can just overclock them.

I checked the vbios on techpowerup and it’s using the same memory ic, so appears to be an artificial BIOS limit.
