If it can see the pancreas that would be a disruption. It is very difficult to ultrasound the entire pancreas which is why for many people it is too late when discovered .

Someone at my work in their early 50s recently had a pain in the side. Went to the doctor and was told to take paracetamol because it was most likely just a muscle strain or something. Pain didn’t go away so they ran more tests - stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Went from nothing wrong with them to leaving work the next day and likely will be dead in the near future. Nice person. Looking forward to retiring in 10 years or so.

Rich people will just get full-body MRIs every month. $24,000 to catch cancer early, it’s a no-brainer!

Now there’s an example of bad phrasing making a sentence confusing to read.

This new wearable can image a bodily organ as well as an ultrasound

    or

This new wearable can is able to image a bodily organ as well as an ultrasound

but even then, “can is able to” can sound weird on the first read.

This article goes soooooo far beyond the abstract’s implications and I wish they had talked to someone who actually uses ultrasound regularly before writing it. This is a wearable patch to take serial images of bladder volume, thats it. It is useful in the very limited clinical circumstances where you’d like a single view of a single organ spaced over a few days, such as for monitoring for urinary retention.

For the vast majority of ultrasound techniques I want a patch to replace my probe about as much as I want a patch to replace my computer’s mouse.

It’s so silly because a bladder scan takes all of a few seconds. And, if you were looking for urinary retention and signs of neurogenic bladder it’s still just a few times a day for like three days. It really is a niche item, probably to allow skilled nursing and acute rehab patients go home early.

You had a great comment, btw.

Alright so as someone that has used an ultrasound this doesn’t look nearly as useful as an ultrasound.
