I’m not sure how ‘limited’ the limited editon steam deck is. I just ordered one without any issues yet from the posts a few days ago, they seem to have sold out.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to it. Never had one before and this was absolutely an impulse purchase. Looking forward to seeing what this device can do.
…got the common “error” message while ordering the LE at launch, only to have it go OOS. I then heard about LE decks being sold in eBay for the $1000s, said “WTF”, and decided against even buying the non-LE until my use case (out of town travel) comes up again in several months after the dust settles.
Fast forward to last night - the “Buy Now” button on the LE is active and I smoothly purchase one…
Just checked eBay and these are selling (i.e., sold listings) for $1000? “WTF?..” The “Buy Now” button for the LE deck is still active at the time of this typing…
I had a similar experience, but I checked back an hour after and ordered it with no issues.
I was really, really mad before that b/c I put it in my cart within 2 seconds of it going live, yet I couldn’t get past the shipping info page for 20 minutes, then while I was stuck at the payment page the error changed to “out of stock”.
I think they are deliberately sticking to to any potential scalpers. So that next time around, scalpers in general are not inclined to try to make bank on the steam decks.
White, please.
If it is not really limited why no EU availability? :<
Probably because they’d have to provide additional warranty within EU territories
Then why they are offering steam deck at all?
Limited run may not have as many replacement parts and the cost of more than a year or a more comprehensive replacement plan could not pan out. However this works just fine on the more common model. Just a guess.
I’m not sure how product listings and certifications work in the EU or the rest of the world, also possible that they didn’t want to go through any expenses for a limited run product. I could be wrong of course and they would be allowed to do so, in which case it was probably logistics.
People are probably hearing word that the etched screen is crap on an OLED model. Lots are getting the 512GB with glossy screen with plans on upgrading the SSD. Why pay extra for a “limited edition” model with a shit screen compared to the cheaper one?
I feel like needing an account that has made purchases before November really stopped scalpers. Sure you could go out there and buy accounts but to prepare for this must be crazy difficult
I literally made an account and ordered the LE . I didn’t think it would work.
Possibly explained by the fact that the LE was USA / Canada shipping only
I was just able to put an order through. Weird. But cool if it works out.
Hilarious to go on eBay and see OLED Decks collecting dust because Valve finessed the scalpers and you can still order them even today. 😂
I’m seeing ones sell for $900. I’m guessing to people outside of its available regions.
Yeah I don’t get it. Don’t feel so special grabbing one day 1 now lol
They changed the slogan from “quantities is very limited” to “ available in limited quantities” few days before it became available for purchase
I just successfully ordered, and it’s a few days later. After days of waffling, I was hoping it would sell out and make it easier to skip haha
Gaben was one step ahead of us all
Finally someone figured out how to prevent scalpers from buying everything. Sadly this is the world we live in now. Anything in high demand will forever be difficult to obtain, until someone does something.
Scored one at midnight on a whim. Hadn’t kept up with the release of this new model until just yesterday. I’m throughly stoked!
And to think I would have the limited edition if I didn’t get the normal LCD 2 weeks ago. Something even better for the same price comes out RIGHT WHEN I GET THE WORSE VERSION FOR THE SAME DAMN PRICE
I’m so sorry it played out like this for you
