Honestly, I love my LCD Steam Deck so much. With the 3.5 update, and the ability to adjust the colors in screen, it feels like a brand new device anyways.

I’ve been using OLED screen for years and didn’t notice any burn-in on them. I guess valve thought about this.

You still got a great Deck.

Words every guy(and girl sometimes these days) wants to hear.

Your deck may not be as nice to look at or as cool, and it may not last as long, but it’s still fun to play with.

Brother it’s a slightly better screen. It legitimately does not make a practical difference your deck will be fine until valve makes a real upgrade

There will always be a newer and shinier toy, Always.

Especially now that the industry is dead focused on ARM chips due to their efficiency and lower battery consumption.

So I expect a new cooler handheld to come up every few months just like gaming laptops did back in the day (now they are standard).

Enjoy what you have and save your $$$ for the SD2.

And yes, it may appear as I take a big dose of copium, but shut up.

I think you’re right, it’ll probably end up like the smart phone race. From their inception until about 2014, there was a new generation of smart phone every few months and each new flagship model blew the doors off the older ones from hardware, performance, and specs perspectives. Now a days it’s really not necessary to buy the flagship phone, the entry and medium tier phones are 99% as good under the hood but are only missing some gimmick feature or have less storage space or something.

I think the portable gaming PC industry is going to be the same way. Look at how fast Asus brought their device to market once the Deck picked up popularity and it was called the Deck Killer because of that Z1 Extreme APU and how much better it is on paper. Then Lenovo released their product recently and it’s supposed to make its competitors obsolete with its extra features. Now Valve is out here building a better product to compete with those guys and more while keeping the things that make the Deck great (like how smooth SteamOS is and the double track pads).

It’s cool to see the renaissance of a new tech era unfold right before our eyes. Unfortunately it’ll probably taper off in the next 5 years just because technology advances and the ability to shrink our tech down can only move so fast.

I have the lcd deck, its become part of my edc during commute and travels.

I watch movies/series, play indie games, time flies.

Ngl that the oled is very VERY attractive for me. Might buy it when my bonus comes. 🫡

Yeah even if I wanted an old I can’t get one because I’m from the UK and they aren’t available according to steam. Might add some things into the old one though

Ordered an LCD never really enjoyed the handheld stuff to much but I have an itch for it currently and I can see the steam deck offering a lot. Games I’ve bought and not played I’ll now be able to play a bit each day and I have started travelling a lot so I guess it’s gunna be handy. Can’t wait to get the emulator on it TBH my beloved phantasy star universe
