‘FHD 6-inch IPS screen with 400 nits brightness, 120% sRGB gamut’
No way can this compete with a Steam Deck OLED for the price they are offering. You may as well just buy a ROG Ally for the same price if not cheaper now. These Chinese handhelds need a desperate wake up call, you are no longer the only game in town.
The boutique manufacturers cost more but offer tech unavailable in the mainstream.
If that tech is successful, it’s then adopted by the mainstream for cheaper.
It’s a system that benefits everyone: people who want cool experimental features before everyone else, and people who want mainstream units with that same tech cheaper from a larger manufacturer.
What we don’t want is boutique brands effectively just making another Ally or steam deck. That doesn’t push the industry forward.
It’s cool to see handheld gaming getting such a wide offering. Seems like the only thing that sets this apart is a QWERTY keyboard, which I don’t think many are asking for. It’s more expensive, smaller screen, and undoubtedly less powerful given how much smaller it is.
This is the worst thread I’ve ever seen on this subreddit.
“Guy in his basement fantasizes a device aimed at competing with powerhouse company’s device, needs capital to find out if it’s feasible.”
New headline for you
Ayaneo is definitely not “guy in his basement”.
Interesting. Definitely like it, conceptually. It’s a good market to get more competition in. A small keyboard is a nice boon, but I haven’t had to leverage the on-screen KB on my Deck enough to justify a physical KB (even though I keep one in my bag). Curious how this one holds up to the competition. Good luck to it.
It’s so weird reading that headline, since Ayaneo has been making handheld PC “consoles” since 2020. They’re just not as well known because of its’ higher price
It doesn’t matter how good you are, unless you’re Apple, if your price is too high, your product will turn bad in the market’s view.
Indiegogo doesn’t mean it exists or will ever exist
“competitor” so far it is still in its own league
I wish the steam deck either had a physical keyboard, or had access to Android keyboards. The on screen keyboard on the steam deck kind of sucks in my opinion. I’d use the steam deck for more multimedia if the keyboard was text box aware across the entire operating system rather than just in the steam store. Pressing “Steam + X” is handy but doesn’t always work in game or on the desktop.
There’s no such thing as a steam deck competitor. In fact didn’t valve encourage the last one that came out? They all run steam, so valve wins either way
No offense but the only real competitor is the Asus Ally, none of this boutique stuff has a chance in hell.
