I’m getting a 17" laptop for my mom, so having text that is not too small is important. I have a couple choices:
- get a 1920x1080 screen that would have smaller text, but then tell Windows to scale it to 125% or 150% so the text is larger
- get a 1600x900 screen so the text is larger
What are the pros/cons of each choice?

More pixels means a cleaner image. It’ll make that larger text size more pleasing to look at, not to mention non-text elements like photos will look nicer when browsing.
Knowing that laptop displays are simply built in with no upgrade paths, I’m not sure why anyone would settle for less than 1080p outside of maybe a strict budget. 1080p is very economical as is and most media are mastered to look nice in 1080p.
