Hi, so I have run into quite the problem with my steam deck. For what I can tell it works perfectly fine, fan is blowing, haptic is responsive, and I get visuals when connected to an external monitor, however the built in monitor is not working.
Does anyone know if there are settings or desktop mode settings I can change that would restore the built in monitor?
For context on how this happened, my steam deck battery full depleted. I plugged it into a reliable power source and turned it on to see if it was receiving a charge. It turned on, showed it was receiving a charge but was at 0%. Shortly after that it died. I proceeded to plug it in and charge it to 100% (as visible on the external monitor). However the built in screen will not function.
Thank you in advance for the time you have taken to respond,
I have a support ticket with Steam opened for the same issue. The device was left plugged in and downloading a game while going to dinner. When returning and trying to turn on the screen, it no longer turns on. No backlight, nothing. The device is fully operational outside of the built-in screen not working.
Troubleshooting steps performed at this point with no luck. Copied these from my support ticket, ignore the WiFi and Internet connectivity issues, those are resolved now and was not Deck specific. I’ve downloaded and played games without issue using the dock and external monitor since creating my support ticket.
-
Pressing and holding the power button for 20+ seconds to ensure it was turned off completely, then powering back on.
-
Reset BIOS to defaults using option in the bottom left when connecting to external display via dock.
-
Reset BIOS to optimal defaults in menu (unsure if these are different defaults or not).
-
Switched to preview channel to test 3.5.6 with display output to TV. WiFi indicating issues, but it downloaded the update via a wired connection in the dock. Screen still not turning on when disconnecting from dock.
-
Switched back to stable channel and factory reset through gaming mode menu on 3.5.5 with display output to TV. Unable to get past initial setup via external monitor after the factory reset since WiFi refused to connect and it did not recognize the wired connection as a working internet connection anymore.

Placed device in battery storage mode using vol up + three dot key, waiting for 10 seconds and unplugging charger cable. I received the light flashes on the led indicating it went into battery storage mode, and then plugged charger back in to bring it out.

Tried today with a new version of the recovery image that was uploaded to your site named “steamdeck-repair-20231117.11-3.5.6.img.bz2”. Process went smoothly, however with the same results. No functioning screen and no working WiFi connection, unable to progress past initial setup via external display due to no internet connection being functional.
