Hello! I got my new Steam Deck in the mail today. I opened it up, plugged it in, and started setting it up. I chose my language, time zone, internet. Then it got stuck on “1 second remaining” when it was installing Steam. I looked online and it said this was common and to restart and switch to a 2G network. I did that. It found an error and stopped. I switched to my phone’s hot spot. It got about 80% of the way to installing Steam and then it blacked out and went to this menu. I think it is a “Boot Menu” or something? Anyways. I can’t select anything on here. No buttons work, the D pad doesn’t work. I can hit the power button but when I turn it back on it’s still this menu. I just got this Steam Deck and have barely done anything to it. I have only tried the initial start up process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Plug mouse and keyboard to navigate
Is this a problem with the oled or the LCD? Just ordered the oled and it’ll be my first steam deck. This got me worried 😟
If nothing else fixes this. Shut down the deck, press the volume up button and the power button at the same time. You should see the BIOS. Follow these instructions to reinstalk Steam OS.
Literally had this the other day.

If he’s got a spare 16gig memory card or stick laying around, download steamos for deck put that on the memory stick then go into boot mode on the deck volume up and power on for a few seconds.
Then he’s got to boot from that USB stick it’ll take about 10 minutes. He will lose everything on there, but at least he’ll have a working deck again.
Also, if he can’t do anything with the dpad or touch screen, try a USB mouse.
You can choose “Reinstall SteamOS” instead of “Reimage Steam Deck” and the installer will ltry to preserve all your games and data while repairing the OS.
Return it buy oled
I hooked up a keyboard and just hit enter. You can also go to the previous update prior to 3.5 SteamOS.
try to reimage with the steamos iso and see what happends.
you need a usb-c stick or usb stick with converter to usb c or a hub or something like that
Straight back to valve
