Okay so from my very limited understanding LCD screens because the way it’s lit doesn’t look good/very reflective outside and in close proximity to lights etc. Hence why an anti glare version of ascreen makes sense. But with this steam deck revision being an OLED (like any new smartphone) since phones typically look good in sunlight, wouldn’t that mean that the steam deck oled would naturally look better outside or where glare may occur or does a phone screen like the iPhone have a built in anti glare that I just don’t know about ? I’m kind of confused lol

iPhones and most OLED screens are glossy not matte/etched like on the Steam Deck high end model. Generally all displays have some sort of anti glare coating on them but not all have a matte/etched screen. All it does is scatter light so with a bright light directly behind you it should, however when you are outside you are unlikely to have the sun directly shining on your screen.

The purpose of the etched screen is to help reduce reflections by scattering light more. Whether or not you like this is subjective

This should mean, that the oled in general is better for using it in daylight, right? At least if we compare the provided nits.

The etched screen will look worse. That’s the bottom line. Colors will look less vibrant, black less black etc. The best option is to get the glossy and get the anti-glare screen protector if you need it.

Imo just get the one you think you’ll like the most. Worst case scenario and you end up hating it, I’m sure they’ll sell replacement oled screens and you can swap later (screen is supposed to be easier to swap on the new model)
