Hi all,

I have never owned a Samsung phone before in my life. I need help picking one out for my boyfriend as a gift, his current phone is old and runs so slowly. He only likes androids/samsung. I want to get him a decent Samsung for around ~$600-$700 USD. One that can run pretty smoothly, take decent pictures (as he’s a foodie and loves taking picture of his food) and will be reliable for the next 5 years or so.

Thank you!

All you people bashing the S22’s. Have you or do even own one ? I had an S21 Ultra. It was awesome. But I came across a great deal on a used S22 Ultra in excellent shape on ebay for $500.00 and it is better than the S21 Ultra I had. All the issues that the S22 series so called it had have been ironed out with updates since it came out. My S22 Ultra gets great battery life. Does not get hot. Camera is awesome. And don’t forget the S-Pen. Your boyfriend might like that. You don’t get it with the S22 or S23 base or + line. I have done benchmarks on my S22 Ultra. And they are not that far off the S23 Ultra. And better than my S21 Ultra did. I am totally happy with my S22 Ultra. I have the 512gb version. You need to know that all the S21,S22,S23 series phones do not have an SD card anymore. So make sure you get a 256gb or 512gb storage cause he likes to take a lot of pictures. If he has big hands and would like the bigger screen 6.8" on the S22 Ultra. Plus the built in S-Pen. For the money get the S22 Ultra. Do your shopping you can find a nice used or refurbished in your price range. You still get software updates through 2026 and security updates through 2027. By than he might be looking to upgrade again anyways. Don’t listen to all the S22 series nay sayers. All those issues they mention have been fixed with software updates. Hope this helps you.

In my own experience, I upgraded from the S22U to the S23, can confirm the battery on the base S23 outlasted the S22U by a lot. I don’t recall if the S22U got hot often but just the battery alone made it worth to pick the S23 series.
