Hi! I’ve been very excited to get a Deck for a year now and I’m able to get one, but I’m really not sure whether it’s worth shelling out an extra €100 for the OLED model. I’m planning to mostly play games casually, like DRG, so I don’t think I really need the higher refresh rate, and I can get those framerates on my PC.

Are the internal upgrades worth the extra money? Or should I go for the older LCD model? Or do I go for a refurbished one?

    I think you’ve been fortunate that your ability to get one coincided with the launch of this revision, the value for money of the OLED deck when compared with the launch models is incredible.

    Ultimately it will decide on how much you value the screen for causal play as I don’t think the other benefits (while good) will impact your experience as much as the screen.

    That being said I decided to upgrade my deck from the launch model to OLED based on the amount of improvements and my experience moving to OLED on Switch.

    Well, OLED now costs the same as LCD model a year ago, and imho it makes sense to get it because of all those little improvements they’ve made. But if you’re short on money, LCD is still good, IMHO. If you plan to play a lot outside under direct sunlight - once again, IMHO - it’s worth considering getting an OLED.

    Yes, the screen alone would make it worthwhile. However the improved battery life, charging, better thermals and efficiency, better WiFi if you have the equipment to take advantage of it and the very slight performance bump from the faster RAM all make it worth it. Now obviously do what’s best for your budget and don’t feel bad going with the LCD deck if you decide to I have owned my LCD deck for a while now and it’s great. It’s just that if you can get the OLED deck you should.
