I love handheld gaming. I just love the idea that I can play any game I want everywhere I go. That’s why I bought the switch 3 years ago and until I played with it almost daily.

I have a decent gaming pc with 5600x rtx 3070 combo and I can play everything with 60fps on my 1080p monitor.

Recently I bought a ps5 as it had a very nice discount for black friday and I had a ps4 for exclusives. I was amazed how nice and crisp ps5 games look on oled. And now I am playing gow ragnarok and gran turismo 7. Before I made the decision to buy the ps5 I wanted to connect my pc to my tv from living room but it is so frustrating to do that and a very long 2.1 hdmi is so expensive as I decided that I should not bother anymore and I also have the exclusives.

After playing games with very nice details on my ps5 I started to find my switch graphics and performance very outdated and I feel that a steam deck can fill that void but I am going to lose the switch exclusives. Also the battery life is not that great on the deck.

I don’t want to make a decision right now as my bank accout still recovers from recent acquisitions but I am still thinking if I should stop and be happy with what I have, sell my switch and buy a deck or just buy the deck and don’t think about it.

I had a pc / ps4 / switch I completely got rid of my ps4 I was only using to play dark souls 3 and Elden ring now I play those on my deck. I still play my switch for animal crossing and ironically play vampire survivors and brotato more on my switch mainly because it’s more comfortable to play in bed.

I think it’s A great purchase. I went on a Trip over the summer and I was able to play all the main games I play on the go.

The only thing you really sacrifice is lower graphics to run games in a more stable frame rate. But i think for what you get it’s a fair trade off.

If you love handheld gaming and the switch is not cutting it for your then I guess? The SD Oled is probably the best experience you’re gonna get in terms of display, but don’t expect amazing graphics. Better than the switch for sure but not anywhere close to your PC or the PS5.

Of course I am not thinking I am going to play cyber punk 2077 60fps on steam deck with gorgeous visuals. I am mostly thinking of indie or very replayable games that I want to play on the go. For example no man sky is playing ok on switch but has a lot of bugs and crashes. On steam desk is the same as pc with low graphics settings which still looks good for me.

If it’s going to break your budget then absolutely do not get one. If you can swing it, you wont regret it. I own a PC with a 13600k/4080, laptop with a 2080 Super, Xbox SX, and Switch. My SD gets just as much usage as my main PC while my laptop, XSX, and switch all collect dust. The SD is easily my favorite device

Probably yes. It would compete with switch for your handheld time. If you don’t have much handheld time then don’t bother.

i personally would invest in a better resolution monitor than the steam deck, but i have all the devices you have and still get good use out of my steam deck. i keep my switch around but never touch it since i have a better time emulating on my pc

if you have extra funds i view my deck as an auxiliary gaming device since most of my deck gaming is jrpgs, indies, and games that i want to pick up right away out of standby mode then suspend so i can switch to my pc and play more demanding games. sometimes i stream emulated switch games from my pc to my deck and it works great within the house

It is a whole another story for buying another monitor as I still yet to find the perfect monitor for me. I want to get a good enough looking ultra wide as I want to use it for work too.
