Sorry if this is a stupid post but I know next to nothing about steam decks. I have really been craving a handheld gaming console but there isn’t really anything out there for me. I’ve never really been into Nintendo so a switch doesn’t appeal to me at all, the PS Portal is pretty pointless as well.

Is a steam deck worth getting for someone who has a PS5 (and a Xbox Series S but mainly just plays the PS5) I don’t have the money or really the room for PC gaming and as I said am looking into handheld gaming.

Can I use it simply for PS5 remote play and Game pass and would I need my PS5 on (or in rest mode) for remote play to work on it?

Is it pointless without a steam account?

What does most people use them for and what else should I know about them?

Steam Deck can do everything you’re asking for. Not out of the box - you’ll need to fiddle around with it and watch some YouTube tutorials to get it all set up to do what you want it to. But yeah, it can suit your needs.

Though, to be honest, if you just want to stream your games, just get one of those $15 Amazon clamp controllers and stream to your (Android) phone. Or get an Android-powered dedicated handheld like a Retroid Pocket. For streaming, they’re quite a bit cheaper and much less fiddly.
