I have a pretty crappy desktop pc that I can only use every other week. I think it would be easier if I sold that and bought a steam deck or rog ally or whatever so I can play my pc games at my dad’s house because my 3ds just ain’t cutting it. I’d probably get the 64gb model and just by a 500gb sd card. Here’s the specs of my current desktop:
- i5 3570
- Rx 6400
- 1 TB SSD
- 60hz 1080p monitor
if doing PC things and playing esports titles isn’t your thing, then sure, you’ll love the deck.
that said, your pc is still more powerful than the steam deck, especially at 1080p. if you can afford getting a refurbished 64gb steam deck, your pc can be used as a relatively good in-home game-streaming box for running games at 800p.
I guess it depends on what you use your PC for beyond gaming.
If it’s purely for games, then I’d recommend the change.
You could also save up for a dock (third party ones are quite reasonably priced, like Jsaux) and use it as a PC too.
Just make sure you get a good SD card, and not any old 500GB one.
Wanna trade for the ssd I have a official dock or 1tb micro sd
To clarify, I play mostly RPGs (Modern Fallout, Baldurs Gate, Stardew Valley, etc) shooters (mostly Overwatch and TF2) and emulation (PS1, SNES, and Original Xbox). FPS isn’t too important to me as long as I can get above 30 or so, and good graphics are very much appreciated but not absolutely nessecary.
I would just get a PS5 if I were you. Yes, it isn’t portable, but you will have a better gaming experience compared to your PC.
The SteamDeck is a nice little device, but it won’t get you the same performance as the Ally or Legion Go.
However, the SteamDeck is more stable, compared to the two other options, although, installing and tweaking games, to have the best performance, isn’t always as straightforward as on the Ally/Legion Go.
Windows on the Ally/Legion Go are both a blessing and curse, you can easily install and play any game with little to no tweaking, but you give up some of the power of the device, because of the operating system (Windows). Also, the battery life is better on the SteamDeck, especially on the new OLED models.
Sell the PC but keep the monitor.
