I was literally playing cyberpunk 2077, phantom liberty with no issues up until I updated from 3.4.11 to 3.5.5 less than a day ago… so it’s been ~ 19 hours, I didn’t change any settings. I booted up the game and played for a few minutes then it crashed. I didn’t think much of it just went on about my day. Then a little later I decided to play again and realized there was a problem. I can’t play, it just keeps freezing - ranges from refusing to get past title to reloading a save, then freezing (and I have to force quit) to just causing my whole steam deck to crash and reset itself.
I tried rolling back and was able to - by accessing the efi boot menu, then I followed instructions to set the boot to be persistent in konsole. Low and behold the problem persists. So I don’t understand, what changed? it seems the update did something and I’m baffled, That’s the only game I’d been playing and it should work just fine so it’s a hard problem to ignore. I feel tricked, I didn’t need to update. I feel like this was something for the deck OLEDs and now I have to suffer because of it - when I was happily gaming on my LCD steam deck prior to updating.
I want my steam deck back.
I knew i wasn’t the only one. I also have been having issues where games I could play would not get past the load screen or will load up let me play a few minutes and then crash and in fact I had it verifying files and it crashed. I also had it crashed just sitting with steamos open. I have never seen steam deck once yet crash just sitting in steamos nor have I ever seen it crash during verification of files. And when it does that, likely more errors will get created. I don’t understand within less than 24 hours of updating it from 3.4.11 that it went to 3.4.5.5 I updated to 3.4.11 I came home from work that night and there was an update for 3.4.5.5 " When god closes a door, he also breaks a window… "
Edit: I play plugged in to a dock with fans on it and I noticed that the LCD screen since the update gets very hot to the touch. That could just be the GPU but it also happens when im not playing a game, downloading or some other process (that im aware of) heavily running the board.
3.5.5 broke my sound over headphones and my internet tether
It fixed halo infinite and broke Titanfall 2 so when I wanna play Titanfall i just go back to 3.4.11, unfortunately it auto updates everytime i turn it off.
Hopefully they’ll fix it soon
Well, just tested and it froze again trying to play RE2 remake. So I’m going to assume my shits busted now. I am so angry. Guess I’ll be leaving it home instead of bringing it on my trip to see family on Thanksgiving. If I’m forced to use another machine to play games I want to play what is the point of the steam deck!? I’m just going to count the days until this is fixed then I guess.
Every bug i had, disappeared with 3.5.5
This happened to me a few days ago, 140hrs into BG3 with no issues. Update to 3.5.5 now every game crashes and restarts the Deck, it’s become unplayable and I’m considering RMA.
Same for me after the update.
This problem has annoyed the shit out of me. At this point I don’t even want to play my steam deck anymore. The update is its not fixable and i don’t have the energy to dive deep into the internet and spend several more days trying to figure this out. A game should just work and a system should play a game you bought to play on it. It’s not like I bought pokemon for gba and thought oh it doesn’t work? No biggie I guess that’s normal. This has ruined my experience and by the time it’s fixed I won’t want to play anymore. It’s a combination of this problem is specifically with steam deck and me being tired of CP77 bugs after I was sold on the game is fixed. What a joke. at this point i’m ranting but pretty much i’m done and don’t want to attempt to play CP77 or even look at my steam deck anymore.
