Hey everyone. First time posting here!

Steam Link on my iPhone 14 Pro Max shows impeccable quality, bit rate and latency (at least for where the tech is in late 2023).

When I try streaming games on my Deck with Steam OS, it’s a nightmare. There’s constant stuttering with a terrible bitrate (pixelation, banding, etc.)

I’m trying to wrap my head around how performance can be so good on an apple device yet so poor on a device made by Steam specifically for use with their platform?

All tests run on the same WiFi network as the host PC, in the same room, just a few feet from a WiFi 6 router. Tested all remote play settings on the deck (default, enhanced 1080p and 4k). My ISP speeds are 1000 down/40 up.

Does anyone share this experience or have any solutions?

I believe the remote play module in steam OS is not that robust and is not really a priority to be made better right now. We are currently missing some basic features that the steam link app and the desktop steam have, like the option to disconnect the stream without closing the program in the host computer. I use my other handheld since it has a bigger screen and it runs on windows.

So I don’t use steam remote play because my internet isn’t stable for that (idk why) but I heard that moonlight is great for streaming games on your deck. You should probably try it

Yeah I’ll give moonlight another go. I find streaming through first party means to be more intuitive but I’ve definitely noticed in the past that moonlight has better streaming quality.
