Recently got my Deck and having trouble getting the built-in microphone to work. When I tried to test out Discord, it couldn’t pick up any audio, so I did a web based mic test and found out it’s a general problem of not getting any input from the microphone.

Now, my next step was to look into the audio settings to see whether I could get it to work somehow, and after manually switching input sources to virtual audio and back as well as activating the AMD sound processor thingy, I got it to work… for a solid 30 seconds before connecting my bluetooth earbuds, which broke it again immediately.

I know it’s not the hardware itself that’s broken - it did pick up my voice for juuust a moment after all. However, no matter what I do, having the audio input set to Internal Microphone doesn’t give sound and - worse yet - it randomly flips the input channel to a nonexistant headset microphone and doesn’t let me change back.

Did anyone here have a similar issue before? Is there a trick to it? Or am I just screwed without an external microphone now?

On which Version are you running your Steam Deck currently?

If it’s 3.5.5 thats a Common Error. You can activate the Experimental Versions and Download the 3.5.6 unstable which hotfixed the mic Not working at all. Its probably that.
