So I just got my OLED (LE) yesterday, and I love the improvements. Screen looks great, translucent shell looks awesome. New case with the velcro latch and detachable inner shell are nice upgrades.

But…I got a bad D-Pad - the right arrow only works on a full mash and not a light press like the other directions or my original SD. And after playing around some more, and applying the 3.5.5 update to my original (etched) LCD…the color difference isn’t quite as stark (Don’t get me wrong, the OLED is still way better…but my LCD model looks way less washed out now) But for my use, I only use it with the lights on, so the full blacks aren’t really a deal breaker for me. And the performance improvements are nice - but I primarily use my SD around the house, so most AAA games I will just stream anyways.

Since I’ll have to return for an exchange to stick with the new model…I think I’m just going to return it and stick to my original. If I had gotten a perfect model, I think I would have kept it (Mainly for the translucent shell) but having to go through the hassle of RMA’ing and seeing the upgrades side by side…I’m not totally sold on a ~$400 upgrade (Assuming I can sell my original for $300, which may be a stretch.) Any other etched 512GB -> OLED users having second thoughts?

If I was forced to go back to only having the LCD model after having played with the OLED, I wouldn’t be too upset either.

Thing is I have both—512GB LCD and 1TB OLED. Yes, the screen is nicer. But not enough to the point where I’m like, “Man, I can’t stand playing on the LCD model anymore!” During actual gameplay I’m not sitting there nitpicking the tiny details that I’m missing out on when I switch back to the LCD model. It’s just as much fun to play on than before.

Really what’s more of an upgrade to me is quicker downloads and the new thumbsticks. I LOVE the shape and grippiness of the new analog sticks. Gameplay does also feel a tiny bit smoother overall, but that may just be the 3-5 FPS gain mentioned in some published benchmarks. It’s not some generational leap in performance or anything though.

One area that I think took a downgrade was the carrying case. I hate the outer velcro strap on the new one. It just flops down and gets stuck again while I’m trying to zip or unzip the case. It feels slightly bigger and bulkier than the original case that came with my 512GB LCD. And worst of all it’s missing the strap which allows me to pull the damn thing out quickly!
