I’m suspicious that the article is claiming that Apple plans to introduce this in December.
- A change in behavior and appearance this substantial is generally the type of thing that product managers target for a full number release rather than a point release or new product intro (which you don’t want do in December) . Could be that this was planned for iOS17 and missed the cut.
- Nearly every company puts the restrictions on making substantial network / device / experience changes for a variety of reasons…Including that you often have key resources needed to recover if something goes wrong taking PTO and traveling (not only within the company but at partners as well).
- Apple doesn’t like to push things like App updates separately from OS updates…Pushing an OS update in December would mean that nearly all people who received ATVs as gifts would get the current / old “multiple apps experience” when they initially connected it - which isn’t the impression that Apple or gift givers want to give. It also would change the “buy flow” for content / games which will generate increased support contact on top of increased support contact from new owners
If this is coming (and I hope it is)…I think it will be in 2024.
Hopefully it won’t be as clumsy as Prime Video.
How about:
-
A library tab that actually allows you to see how long the bloody movie is!
-
The ability to have separate Movies and TV sections as in the store section for people like me that don’t watch television shows.
-
The ability to like, dislike and most importantly hide content.
-
Put the content that’s in my Up Next list front and centre on the main tab instead of Apple TV+ content I can’t and don’t want to watch.
Hiding content would be a great addition. I have several movies that were bought as part of box sets that i will never ever watch. Like ten comedy classics for example and there is always 2 or 3 you’ve never heard of! I would like to hide those within the library. Also if you’ve bought a film and it is part of a collection later on. You bought the film, say fast and furious 1, then you later want to buy the collection because it is a good deal, it should be discounted if you already own films within that collection.

I just want an app that combines all my different apps so I can simply scroll through the things that I PAY for, and not have to worry about the things that aren’t available to me or need another subscription. I would literally pay for an app that aggregates all my different subscriptions into one. It’s so irritating to me to have to search through apps one by one to see who has a movie I’m looking for
I only use Plex, good for live OTA TV, ripped DVD’s and recorded TV, Youtube, Tubi and 10 pin shuffle. Don’t f. that up, Timmy.
Man, clickbait titles like this, I swear.
Headline: Apple to KILL ALL DEVICES except iPhone in 2024!!!
Actual content: In 2024, Apple’s going to add a switch that lets users deactivate one of their own devices from an iPhone in the event of an emergency.
I don’t mind at all if they do a good job. What they’ve done with trailers so far is utter shambles. I’m in UK and it’s possibly a bit worse than US.
Pretty excited for this!
You will still be able to buy movies though iTunes though?
As long as it turns the Apple TV app from being an Apple TV+ billboard to an app that’s actually usable, i’m in.
I just hope Netflix gets a proper update on the ATV. Ngl, android tv version is so much better at the moment
