Apple sent out invites yesterday for a pre-Halloween Mac announcement. The MacBook Pro is believed most likely to get updated at the event, but honestly iMac is likely not out of the question or maybe even MacBook Air. So to avoid buyer’s remorse, maybe wait until after October 30th to buy a new machine.

I just got a 14inch M1 Pro with 32gb RAM for $1500 (1611 post tax), brand new. I really like it so far.

Interesting thing is that I get close to 50% of RAM utilization pretty often. 16GB of RAM is just plain out silly for a macbook in today’s times.

The price went down $800 in 2 years, in 2 years I can just upgrade to an M3 while my M1 can do everything I really want. I don’t see a reason to get a new M3 when a similarly specced MacBook to mine is going to be around $2400.

Utilization doesn’t matter, unused RAM is wasted RAM and macOS will use all available memory to give the user a snappier performance. Only consider more RAM IF you see red memory pressure graph or experience any hickups and slowdowns in your workflow.
