The original model was indeed, I will never part with mine as it still looks amazing. Sony released a revised model in 2014 with an LCD screen which was nowhere near as good sadly.

Even more interesting is that it was the first portable with an OLED screen, at the time when the tech for OLED touchscreens was only two years old!

As much as the Vita was ahead of the time it’s the screen that was the main innovation, how they managed to put an absolutely cutting-edge qHD OLED into a 250$ console is still a mystery haha. Or rather, how much money did they lose on every Vita sold is the true question lol.

I believe the Zune HD was another extremely early consumer device with an OLED display… Remember Zune…?

I think the yield for a perfect screen was not too high. I got a Vita and decided to get a backup screen from Aliexpress for $10. There are a lot of these “new” screens, and they all have some kind of defect. The one I got has 1 dead subpixel that’s not really noticeable in a game, so I just kept it as backup.

Also had a LCD model come out after the initial release, backwards to what we see now.

Think twice before buying this expensive item theres no instruction manual and it’s very stressful if you have learning issues or lack paitence it’s a computer the stress deck freezes up at times I prefer something more simple and cheaper like the Sony PSP or Gameboy advance DS steam deck is a online game console I dislike online gaming why because they can bait you into paying monthly subscriptions or buying expensive games

Are those sticks on the switch the actual colors, or did you put caps on top?

I still say the vita is the greatest handheld of all time, don’t care how badly it sold, its better than the switch on so many levels and yes it had a lot of TYPICAL SONY problems (propriety cards cartrages and charger and to many useless features that are only used on games that came at launch) but it was from 2010/11 and the only thing that held it back was the people’s thoughts, they all thought mobile gaming is the future when it clearly wasn’t.

Hell yes. Vita means life. I love that little powerhouse, I still have it charged just in case.
