Hi all – I’m about to give up on this. I work in IT so I know my way around and I’ve got all the hardware to perform the upgrade and clone the disk. I performed a similar procedure that works well when upgrading windows/linux machines (disk or sector clone, expand partitions, etc…)

However, after reinstalling the cloned SSD back into OLED with the data from the old deck, it was stuck a boot loop. It could be a firmware issue, or something with TPM encryption, perhaps the hardware changed too much? I’m not familiar enough with the steam deck to figure it out. But I thought I’d post just to give anyone else a heads up who thought to try this. I am missing something but I’m not sure what.

I’m just going to re-image it and reinstall everything manually. Oh well.

I’m open to ideas if anyone else manages to get it to work.

What version of steamos was installed on the source disk you cloned?

Onto a different steamdeck or the same deck with a new ssd? Since the hardware is slightly different and also TPM was enabled there could be issues there.

Just cloned the image from my 512GB LCD onto a external ssd, then loaded that image onto the 1TB LE OLED. Clonezilla took care of expanding the partition and everything. Turned on my OLED and I was right where I left off from my LCD. No issues at all.
