I also have Windows installed on an external SSD and I am contemplating whether to get D4 on Steam or on my Windows partition.
My initial leaning is towards Windows since I can just install the Battle.net launcher and also get to my other games from there. However I don’t know if performance is similar on both platforms.
Anybody with experience on both or either who can shed some light on what best to do?

Diablo 4 is on Steam. You don’t need Battle.net. plays fantastic at 55-60fps
I don’t have experience on both, but I can tell you that you can easily installed Battle.net in SteamOS, and Diablo 4 runs perfectly on Linux using that. You don’t have to buy it on Steam to be able to play it in SteamOS.
