Hey everyone, so basically I’m getting a handheld late next year and my options are now between the decks and the rog ally, on one hand I absolutely adore the design of the deck and the console like UI and support, but due to its limited preformance I’m scared that with the rapid increase in game graphics that the deck won’t be able to run it , I’m mainly interested in games such as Yakuza , rdr2 and cyberpunk , single player games in a nutshell, so I don’t know if it’ll last that long which is why I’m looking at the ally but I really don’t like the way it looks but I’m thinking maybe the bump in preformance is a worthy trade-off

Just get the deck and don’t look back. The ROG Ally is fine but I don’t trust Asus with a thousand metre pole let alone a thousand dollars.

Well, like anything else in technology, everything will become obsolete. The best thing to do is to either buy it now or continue waiting to the point that you’ll never buy it at all.

If you want to play mostly AAA games then get the Allly. If you already have a beefy PC, get the Steam Deck

The Deck is great for what it does. It does PS4/Xbox One games well and exceptionally with 360 era games. Expect low to medium settings for new games. Another option to enjoy newer games with good quality is via streaming. I just upgraded to a wifi 6e mesh router and that is the way to go. I’m able to play Gamepass games and it’s just about equivalent to playing native. The new OLED model makes this option the best you can get.

The biggest advantage that the Steam Deck has, is that games are being developed, designed to run on it.

Games aren’t being designed to run on the Rog Ally (at least most won’t). Many game developers are going to go for that green checkmark, and it gives them a good target to design for.

People continually have this fear. Just gotta enjoy the console while you have it. All hardware is eventually going to become outdated but people greatly overestimate the speed.

Also, all the games that will run on it today, will run on it in 20 years as well. And that are a lot of games. And i didn’t even talk about emulation yet… :)

This is the answer. I’m very happy clearing my backlog and that alone will take years. Not even considering I seem to play games like Skyrim, Fallout, Halo, Half life 2 etc over and over again

Agreed. You’re never going to be able to enjoy anything if you have a perpetual fear of stuff being outdated in the future. That’s a terrible way to go about living life. Enjoying the present and making memorable moments is what it’s all about.

Yakuza should run 60 fps no problem,rd2 should be around 30/40 fps, cyberpunk the same as rd2 and i heard that thanks to the oled model it runs a bit smoother. Those should be the numbers but dont take me for granted as i am waiting for my first deck to arrive, but if you look on yt those are the numbers. About the ally,i honestly didnt choose it simply because it has more power but way less battery, optimizations and QoL as its just windows slapped inside it
