To anyone getting black screen on Sea of thieves login I finally found the fix. You need to either have an external keyboard or install KDE connect on your phone and switch to use as a remote keyboard. You should now be able to sign in while on desktop mode

I did the same thing this morning. Used a keyboard in desktop mode - only have to do it once since after first login it saves info.
