Like many of you, I monitored my tracking progress as soon as I submitted my order on release day. While I was quick to receive a tracking number, it took a few days for the system to actually start moving. I was really hoping to have it in-hand before going away for Thanksgiving, but that didn’t happen. I tried to forward the SD to my local UPS so that I could pick it up when I would return, but there was some sort of shipper restriction, and I that option wasn’t available. So I did the next best thing and set up a Vacation Hold. I go on my trip, and of course, for some reason, the hold gets ignored and UPS delivers my brand new SD on 11/22. While I’m filling up on turkey and catching up with friends and family, the SD was waiting outdoors where the nightly temperature would go below freezing. And of course, the day that I drove home, it rained all day. When I arrived, I was relieved to see that the Deck was still sitting in front of my door, but it was absolutely soaked…

I opened the package, and some water did seep into the plastic wrapping, but the carrying case itself seemed relatively dry. The charging brick’s box was also damp. I powered the system on, and it seemed to run ok.

Does anyone foresee and issues I might run into? Can multiple nights of sub-freezing temps mess with the hardware? If the system powers on and seems functional (haven’t played anything, just went through the initial setup), can I assume there is no water damage? Also, I plugged it in and charged it overnight ~6 hours and it peaked at 99%.

It’s really obnoxious how shippers restrict being able to forward packages to a UPS store or Fedex facility. I had ordered my SteamDeck OLED when it was 1-2 week shipping so it would have gotten to my house just after I got back home from Thanksgiving. Instead it shipped that weekend and got delivered the day after I left town and sat in front of my house from Wednesday to Sunday. Luckily I live in a place without a lot of foot traffic so the package was safe from theft but like you I am worried about what the temperature fluctuations have done to the Steamdeck.
