I’ve got an old Galaxy S8+ I’d love to turn into an always-online security camera. It is always plugged in (charging) and is always connected to the internet. Storage is not an issue. Everything is set up, except for this settings. Is 4k really that much better than 1080p, considering this phone can’t handle 4k60?

Storage might not be an issue, but heating might be. Recording and processing video on a non stop basis could cause potential overheating at 4k30 vs the 1080p60. Also, concerns about the actual battery in the device could arise if this is to be used long term. Definitely something worth checking on every couple of weeks/months. I am not sure if the device would work just plugged in with no battery, but if it could be, that might be a good option. If you need battery backup for the camera, I would look into a proper UPS battery instead of trying to rely on a phone battery.
