Just out of curiosity, but when I modify my steamdeck to ALWAYS boot into desktop mode first (using the command ```/usr/bin/steamos-session-select plasma-wayland-persistent```) I noticed that my deck always turns on and enters the desktop WITHOUT asking for any password or anything! There is literally no security on the desktop whatsoever. I even tried setting a pin (in game mode), which doesn’t work when I try to boot into the desktop os on startup (it will work if I undo the effects of the command).

How can I start my steamdeck in desktop mode EVERY TIME while also ensuring that there is a login screen of sorts to ensure that it’s protected? Thanks for your advice!

Please note that even if you manage to set it up to ask password at boot, it would not give any meaningful protection. Anybody who has access to the Deck could easily reset / change your password to anything they want and the use that password to log in.

If you want more security, you would need to encrypt the data on your SSD so it is not readable or modifiable without the right password. Setting that up is hard, you would need some knowledge about PC / Linux boot process and probably you would have issues how to enter the password before the system can show you the on-screen keyboard, etc., but it can be done.
