Please be civil.

Assume I have little technical expertise. I have some games on the PC (lets say Dark Souls 2 / Walking Dead Telltale Definitive) that I’d like to play on the Steam Deck, where my saves do not carry over. What can I do to force this? Please do not use acronyms or vague terms, I need this explained like I’m 5. Thanks in advance, would really appreciate some guidance on this matter.

Is it complicated?

I just thought about this a little while ago. Maybe somehow with Dropbox, creating symlinks to the save file directories. Not sure if this would work out as I think.

So by steam cloud you just mean A cloud? Sign up for decent free cloud storage like Dropbox. On the deck download the “open cloud saves” app from discovery store while in desktop mode.

Look open open cloud saves on your pc and download it. On the app you first get the option to connect to a cloud storage account, login on both devices with the one you created earlier.

Then you click on add game, give it a name and enter the file path for where the game stores it’s saves. Do the same on both devices you are syncing, the location will be different on your computer, but you can enter multiple locations per game. The app will let you sync those folders to your storage account. To know the locations of the gamesaves, look up that game on PC gaming wiki.

It’s much faster to Synchthing locally the gamesaves folders.

You keep your deck and PC on under the same network and Synchthing will do the deed syncing the gamesaves to the most recent on both devices.
