I’ve seen a ton of people posting about “the gpu bug” and last night when I was playing Shredders I noticed the odd stutter. Nothing game breaking but I remember thinking “hmm, I thought this game would run more than the fps I’m getting”. Turns out it doesn’t, but still.

So I get up the performance overlay and I see my gpu constantly jumping between 200-1040mhz and remember it being mentioned by many on here.

Like I said, I’ve not encountered any occasions of games being unplayable (yet) but can someone please explain in simple terms what is actually happening with this bug?

TIA

It’s not entirely clear whether the deck fluctuating between 200mhz and 1040mhz is in itself an issue. I get this in The Ascent but it performs absolutely fine but in Cyberpunk 2077 and The Surge 2 the frame times are all over the place resulting in a stuttery not very playable experience.

I do NOT get this issue on my LCD deck but I do on the OLED. Having said that I don’t think it’s related to the OLED specifically because I have read reports of the LCD deck having this issue too.

On the benchmark in Cyberpunk I lock the FPS within steam to 60hz/30fps (LCD) and noticed the maximum frame rate is as expected 30fps and the minimum is not much below that 28 or something. On the OLED even though it’s locked to 90hz/30fps the result is too an AVERAGE of 30fps but the maximum frame rate is 88fps and the minimum is 15fps. That to me explains the stuttery performance but I don’t know how to fix it. I’ve tried every possible combination of settings and it’s always the same stuttery experience.

I’ve noticed significant decrease on emulation performance due to this bug. Talking over 40% less frames in certain games
