What’s your go-to game to “grind” on the Steam Deck? With the portability I imagine a lot of the community takes advantage of grinding levels/resources/materials/unlockables on games while away from their gaming setup.eam Deck allows me to chill in bed, on the couch, or away from my desk in general and still game.

Any suggestions?
Dragon Quest Monsters!
I have murdered so many albaurnics (sp) in Elden Ring on my deck while watching TV.
Genshin Impact, No Man’s Sky, Warframe, and Deep Rock Galactic.
RDRII, trying to get that 100% completion
Settings
This game is insane, i love that level that we need to press “go to desktop mode” and need to use the “konsole” item
Diablo 2 Resurrected. God, I could play that game for actual decades. And I’m only 23 lol
I just started playing Slay the Spire and I can totally see it being a go to game that I always come back to. Loads of fun. And I am not usually a card game type of gamer, but this one just works for me.
One of the first games I got… Played till 1 am last night beating the daily climb.
I started last year and blinked on accident, now it’s almost 2024
I have it on other mobile platforms so it’s not a deck game for me
Picked it up a month ago and feel similarly to you. Also not a card guy, but damn they nailed the mechanics in this. Sometimes the rng is annoying, but I do appreciate that there are countless ways to play. I do wish there was some type of mechanic for progress other than ascension though
I bounced off sts for some reason and didn’t think deck builders were for me until I recently started Monster Train. I can’t put it down. Check it out next.
Monster Train is my go-to after spending so, soooo much time in StS. I really enjoy it a lot! It’s also relatively shorter, which timewise is perfect for me.
I play it on my phone just so I can play at work during meetings. Its the best
Get the Slay The Spire Downfall mod. It’s standalone on the steam page now, and works just as good on Deck (just gotta select the “slay” configuration for controls to get it going).
It’s all the stuff from the base game and some more characters, plus you can play as bosses and there’s another mode or two. Really expands the game in a fun way.
Picked up Hades on the autumn sale and I can’t put it down, runs and looks great with great battery life
Best voice acting of any game
I found Metal Gear Solid 4 to have better voice acting!
There’s a community controller setting that makes the left pad move and dash on click, super satisfying
Thanks! I’ll look for it when I get a chance
Rimworld so far
Been struggling trying to get into this. It’s so complicated but really my main issue that has me at a dead halt is that I don’t know how to get my characters to equip weapons. It doesn’t work.
definitely would recommend some tutorials from their wiki, it’s great to get started and set up, from there you can start to intuitively control things a lot easier
I did the tutorial multiple times and it is the part where it says equip the weapon that I get stuck. It just doesn’t work as they say it should. I can’t click the menu option to equip.
I usually play on desktop with the steam deck but how you do it is you have to select the character you want to equip the weapon with and then bring up the context menu (as in right click) on the weapon while your character is selected (you can select them in the top bar if you can’t find them) and then one of the options on the weapon context menu will be equip.
It took me like 10 tries, I’m currently not playing it. That’s how hard it is lol. I feel like the way to learn is just to play it with the intention of dying and starting over. Learn the controls with tutorials, but yes it is insanely hard to get into I think. I always end up dealing with some crazy fire situation and then everyone dies. It’s pretty difficult :(
Click the pawn, Click the weapon (equip). Done
But some tutoriais are good
Read some starter tutorials
I played the tutorial and it’s just not working when they tell me to do it. Tried restarting it and even just making a non tutorial world but still not working. I can’t click on equip. When I do it doesn’t select the menu option but rather selects the ground underneath it or the weapon itself while deselecting the character.
Yes, that’s weird. Maybe if you play on deck, your button layout may be a different than mine.
Understandable. It’s a complex game and some mechanics are not intuitive. I bought it one year ago, but got into it this summer, just because of my deck <3 And now, it’s my most played game on it.
There is a tab down in the menu where you can assign which type of weapons, armor and cloth they are allowed to wear. If something is not allowed, they won’t touch it. Nevertheless, you can force it by selecting one of the pawns and right clicking the weapon and chose "equip ". If this doesn’t work, it must be a bug.
That doesn’t work for me and idk why. I select them, and click equip but nothing happens. Tried restarting the worlds and such but still nothing. Maybe I need to reinstall.
For me it’s souls and souls-likes. Lies of P, Remnant 2, the Dark Souls trilogy, and Steelrising have been my go-to games. Before that I really got into Brotato too
Right now for me it’s Enter The Gungeon. There’s so much depth and stuff to unlock I’m hooked.
God I dumped so many hours into this game
When that gets old there’s hundreds of mods that add tons of new everything to the game.
Any advice for someone new to this genre of games? I haven’t been able to defeat the first boss thus far 😅 but I was really enjoying the dungeon crawling/exploring so I want to try and improve if I can!
I played it on the PC, but the biggest step change for me was practicing not rolling. Rolling wastes time that could be spent shooting, and often leads you into bad situations. I spent several runs never rolling, and that made me a lot better at walking between bullets. Fights which used to be impossible suddenly became trivial.
Project Zomboid, State of Decay 2, This War of mine, and NMS
how is project zomboid a grind game? Is it good? I heard it’s brutal
Survival brother, I think it is great, but it is a bit brutal. Losing a built character doesn’t ever really get easier.
World of Warcraft
How do you play WoW on deck control wise? Just use track pads like a mouse and click skills manually? Or did they add controller support
Hades
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. Battles don’t last crazy long and its a good pick up and play game. You grind for money and build your own kingdom.
how’s controls? i used to be addicted on PC mouse and keyboard.
Surprisingly not as bad as you’d think. The directional swinging takes a minute to get use to with joysticks but it’s not bad. I haven’t done much archery with this character but I imagine it could be a bit harder.
