So Ive been watching a few videos and it has been mentioned that there is a special process to install other operating systems on the steamdeck. Can I just etch a linux distro (like ubuntu) onto a flashdrive, pop it into the steam deck, and work through the setup to set the partitions appropriately, or is there something that I need to be wary about with the deck not being able to manage partitions itself.

I’ve also heard that the steamdeck doesn’t have a Grub bootloader, so will it always instantiate steamOS first? Is there a way I can have it always instantiate my other bootable drives?

You’d be better off installing Nobara, there’s a Steamdeck version.

Install it to a SD card or something, don’t mess with the internal drive.
