So I just received my OLED and started downloading Resident Evil Village to test a dark game. Straight away I have noticed that it’s downloading way slower than my old LCD model while using WiFi 6E.! I’m on 1200Mbps connection and my desktop downloads games from steam at max speed while Steam deck OLED sits at around 250Mbps (it did go up a bit when I got it close to my WiFi access point). My old LCD deck downloads games at about 400Mbps. My other 6E device is Quest 3 and that reaches 1150Mbps using WiFi 6E. Anyway the game eventually downloaded and right of the bat I could see really bad uniformity on the grey background with Capcom logo. The right side of the screen is much brighter than the left side. Loaded up a save game and more disappointment hit me when I realised how grainy dark areas are and how bad it is when going from grey to black (it goes from something like 5% grey to 100% black with nothing in between). What an awful oled display this is. I got 3 oled TVs at home, 2 oled phones and 2 oled watches and nothing is anywhere near as bad as this. Looks like valve cheaped out on the display again. They went for the worst possible IPS panel on previous deck to the worst possible oled panel they could find on the new one. I will be returning mine most likely as this is just laughable. Took me 10 seconds in a game to get disappointed. I bought the oled as I couldn’t stand playing dark games on the crappy IPS panel in my old deck and this one doesn’t make it much better.
