Hey all, I wanted to grab a red transparent backplate for my OLED but i didn’t know if it affected thermals in a negative way considering I wanted to add it onto it. I also looked into the extreme rate ones that I also want to ask if they affect thermals. was wondering if anyone had any experience. Thanks!

I’m going to go against the others who have commented here and say it’s completely safe.

A valve employee confirmed in another thread that the back plate is compatible with the OLED and that the screws are in the same places. (Just make sure you use the original OLED screws)

As for thermals if you are afraid the heatsink will badly affect the deck just take it out and use the backplate without it and with the same air flow as the original back.

My advice if you do decide to use the heat sink is to remove a large portion of the thermal pad so that you don’t hinder air flow like they do in the newer Jsaux back plate. Even though to be fair Cryobyte33 went very in depth on YouTube and saw no negatives in his testing even using the entire thermal pad.

It’s not like you are doing anything drastic like lots other back plates do so I’d say you’re good 👍
