I recently purchased this motherboard (name in title), and on the box it says it’s compatible with Intel’s 12th and 13th gen CPUs. I myself got i9-12900kf.

Now i don’t plan to upgrade to 14th gen, at least until prices drop a bit, even though i myself would rather wait for 15th gen or whatever is coming after 14th.

But considering that on the box it says with 12th and 13th, does that mean that 14th gen or even 15th wouldn’t work on it?

I thought Z790 boards were newer? Or is mine just not uber high end expensive?

It’ll support 12th and 13th gen out of the box. Look up your board’s support page on Asus’ website for compatibility list and BIOS updates to enable 14th gen support.

Socket LGA1700 will work with 12th, 13th, and 14th gen, although 13th and 14th gen may require a BIOS update if it’s an earlier production model.

The upcoming 15th gen will be a new socket, so it won’t work on this motherboard.

You can use any generation as long as the CPUs and the mother board sockets are compatible

14th Gen is 13th Gen - should work as they’re the same LGA 1700 socket. 15th Gen will depend on whether Intel decides to use another type.

If your bios is 1202 version or higher dated June then it will support 14th gen CPU, I am running 14700KF with that exact same board updated with new bios dated October.
