I’m looking into buying some headphones for the gym, and I’d like to give Fairphone products a try. My experience with earbuds is that they tend to be hard a fit that can stay put during a whole run, and with larger over-ears I worry about getting my ears too hot during the exercise.

So between the two, which one would you choose?

I was steered off after reading/watching lots of reviews of the Fairbuds reporting their audio quality is very average to low.

Seeking a battery-replaceable model I ended up going with the Samsung Buds Core which have a very similar Varta button battery to the Fairbuds. It is not designed to be user-replaceable, but isn’t very hard either - look up some YouTube videos and see if you’d be comfortable with the replacement process (its a bit fiddly).

    P. S. As this is a Fairphone comm let me know if my comment is unwelcome. I love what Fairphone does and was keen to get their headphones, but couldn’t justify the cost with the performance. Hopefully the next version improves performance.

Your comment is certainly welcome. You are making valid points, and this community is not just to cheer the company on. I understand that they are not made for people who value bang-per-dollar, but I also could not bring myself any of their products after being disappointed with their Fairphone 3 -> Fairphone 4 direction. I thought the 3 would be the foundation for the phones and that upgrades would be a matter of changing the modules, but they moved on to “only” make their phones more repairable.

I probably wouldn’t use the fairbuds on a run. The fit on mine is decent but I wouldn’t trust them on a run.

I hate buds only, they are always working their way out of my ears. I must have strange ears as I can’t understand how those things are so popular.

Why not just but some with ear hooks? There’s like 1000s of options. I have a set I bought for $20 that have lasted for almost a decade now that stay firmly in my ears during my workout because of the ear hooks.

Yeah, I guess that’s will be the way to go. But if I can do that with my cheapo earbuds, then I’ll just stick with them for now…

You are confusing products. Fairphone is a cell phone and company name.

Fairbuds XL are the headphones. I have a set, they are great for listening to music and comfortable. But the cushioning does soak up sweat.

I have been thinking of ordering the Fairbuds for when I do yard work because I don’t like cleaning the sweat out of the soft fabrics on the XLs. The Fairbuds have multiple sizes for the ear tip because one size doesn’t fit all.

Yeah, I meant to compare their “small” and “big” headphones. If the XL picks up sweat, then it’s a no for me.
