Apple is prototyping a second new iPhone display, this one measuring around 6.4 inches, that could be destined for the 20th anniversary iPhone, according to a Chinese leaker. In a recent post on Weibo, the leaker known as “Digital Chat Station” said Apple is currently sampling two new display panels.

Am I the only one who wants absolutely no part of the X2? This wraparound glass. Samsung tried it before. They don’t do it anymore.
I’m also not interested in the Ultra. None of the folding phones appeal to me at all. I just see a potential point of failure.
People want to complain about Sony taking away their digital purchases and saying they’re just renting their games, but look how many people line up to do so. And to “rent” iPhones. So you get this thing that will break, by design, in a couple years, so you have to get another one. Which you’ll want to do anyway since the only real innovation any smartphone has anymore is AI. They’re not making emailing, typing, or web browsing better. Those have all hit their apex (and can be improved with software). Any flagship from any brand from the last 5 years is basically still good enough today, assuming the hardware hasn’t broken down.
But, they don’t care what I think — the phone I want is the one I have. I want that to last. My iPhone (16 Pro Max) is from 2024. My Android phone (Galaxy S10) is from 2019, and it still rocks. It’s mostly a cosplay prop now, but it’s also a music archive.
I’m still using a phone from 2016. Before this one I was using a Note 2.
Got a 6+ year old iPhone 11 here I use for work. What do you mean by “designed to break”?
I use this all day long every day for emails, calls, yadda yadda and the only thing that’s a bit off is the battery holds less charge than it used to but all my phones have done that. I should probably just get the battery replaced.
And Apple have confirmed it will run iOS 27 so it’s still supported for the foreseeable future.
So I guess you don’t need to buy a new phone either if you don’t want to given yours is less than 2 years old?

Published data shows around 42% of upgraded iPhones are >3 years old, Apple themselves have published that there are hundreds of millions of 5+ year old iPhones in use, and that iPhone users keep their phones longer than Android users.
From what I can tell, having an old iPhone is more normal than having an old Android.
