Hey all, I broke my phone a few months ago and have been using a cheap Android since then and it’s bad. Being on a budget, is it a good idea to go for an OGSE which will mainly be used for light texting and listening to music? I don’t use socials or play games much so there isn’t really a point in me getting a flagship, can’t afford to anyways, just wondering if the OGSE is decent in 2023? Should I splurge a bit more and go for a 2nd Gen instead? c:

I just bought one and am using it over my 12. I love the size of it and it performs just fine for what I’m doing with it. I mean I use it for work taking calls all day, zoom calls for a few classes of mine, FaceTime etc. I imagine the next few years it’ll slow down because of its age but right now it’s aged like fine wine for an almost 8 year old device. I love it.

It’s great still using it in 2023 and no plan to stop anytime soon. Would recommend getting a battery replacement if the battery is below 85% battery health. Mine was at 79% and would have to charge multiple times per day (just from calling, texting, email, and some like socials). The Reddit app is great actually battery drain is like 10% per hour, less if you have video disabled. Other apps seem to kill it really fast for no real reason, like FB marketplace.

OGSE is great even moreso as a minimalist device. Was using mine for a bit this year.

I used se 2016 32gb as my alternative when my main phone was for 30 days in repair, it was fine and without problems.

The OGSE is fine as a smartphone nevermind as a dumb phone in 2023. There’s nothing it can’t do and all the apps are still supported on iOS 15.8.

As people said here, the OG iPhone SE is still decent. But if you don’t care about the headphone jack, you’ll like the newer SE too.

my mom has a 2nd gen and I have a 3rd gen. the difference between 1 and 2 isn’t as big of a leap as 2 to 3, imo.

either way you should budget for a new battery they don’t last long, and use apple store for the new battery replacement.

If i were you, i would buy the SE1, and get the new battery, and not regret a thing.

One Suggestion (This not about the SE) If you want a dumb smartphone for just like calling or texting I like the iPhone 4 on iOS 4 is a good example.

I have the SE 3 , and I love the form factor. However the battery is shit. The SE 2 would be okay if you plan on getting a new one with a small period of time but I wouldn’t recommend for long term because the battery is worst then the SE3.
