I found out that old phones used to have iris sensors and that they apparently required bezels. I have been told that anything other than a camera requires a bezel. I don’t understand the inner workings of all this stuff so I’m going to need someone to eli5 why they require a bezel. Not why the phone needs to be thicker, I mean why iris scanners and the other stuff need any kind of bezel. I feel like there’s something I’m missing that will be so clear and obvious to me when someone explains it. I seem to have no answer from anyone on this.

My guess is if those components were under the screen then perhaps it could affect the reliability of scanning the irises?

If you look at the quality hit the UDC camera on the Fold has, then it’ll likely affect the sensor’s ability to scan your irises. Having the sensors on a bezel means nothing to obstruct its view.
