Hey everyone! I want to buy a new laptop and am torn between the Dell XPS and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1. I’m a programmer looking for a laptop that’s reliable and great for coding and development work. Do you have any personal experiences, recommendations, or insights on which one might be better? Thanks in advance!

Since the Lenovo is a true business class item, it tends be more durable, and it does make replacing parts fairly easy. Dell does allow you to change out the battery, but I think the XPS has all soldered ram. Some complain of heat issues with xps, but some people abuse their stuff. So, I am not sure that is a valid complaint.

This question can’t be reasonably answered the way you asked it.

One is an ultralight, one of the very lightest laptops on the market, where you sacrifice performance for portability; the other is a much larger desktop replacement that weighs more than twice as much, where portability is sacrificed for performance.

They are so different that the answer really depends on your use case (and you really didn’t give enough detail to say one way or another). It’s like asking “Should I get a Hummer or a Corolla?”

They’re both capable and they’re both pretty light. I know one is lighter than the other but they’re both still lighter than most other laptops. Go feel em in store. It’s a way better experience and you might get your answer for yourself.
