I have plans to buy a steam deck to replace my notebook in my studies due to the possibility of it being a mini pc and being able to play on it with steam OS, my question is, my notebook is really bad, and the steam deck is much superior to it Is the device worth the investment for studies and entertainment?

I’m not sure how anyone says this can’t be used optimally for school. Get a cheap external monitor, keyboard and mouse, and it’s essentially a great desktop computer.

It works amazingly well for anything school related. I’ve literally installed windows and designed on it with adobe illustrator and photoshop. No it’s not top of the line but it’s plenty for basic school stuff and is honestly pretty damn fast.

I have a laptop that costed me almost double what the Deck costs, and it runs like absolute garbage in comparison.

If you use a usb-c hub or bluetooth keyboard and mouse you should be fine. Ideally an external monitor for home

Using it as a laptop with the trackpad and inline keyboard you’ll be swearing at the thing non-stop. It is not what it was designed for and it shows. It works in a pinch but it’s not comfortable or useable. And the touch screen isn’t that precise either.

The screen is small but readable for reading and using websites and taking notes. But not for long sessions.

And of course you’d be on linux so you can do everything on it but the learning curve can be steep at times. Online stuff usually works fine.

Other thing to consider: no webcam so if you have need for zoom or something of the like you need to get one.
