I’d prefer to purchase the 15 Pro Max in-person from an Apple store, but the in-store pickup option has been unavailable since the launch date.

Is this happening around the country? Does anyone have an idea of when stock will be high enough to purchase in-store?

Use the Apple Store app like we’ve been doing for the past six years. In my area four stores currently have iPhone 15 Pro Max in stock ready for pick up.

They are sporadically available in store but it usually takes a couple of months to reach supply demand balance.

Yup. Finding a 15 PM for pick up isn’t terribly hard unless you want one of the more popular models (e.g., 256 GB 15 PM in Natural). Even then, it may be possible within a couple of weeks if you’re willing to drive 50-100 miles.

For the 14 series, it was mid-late January before you could just walk into an Apple Store and buy what you wanted.
