Since a few months we’re using the Apple TV as our main device with which we watch TV. We use the NLZIET app instead of using a setup box from Ziggo or KPN etc.
This works quite well most of the time but…
Since we use the Apple TV more often this way we tend to notice more and more annoyances. These are all connected to the Apple TV remote.
- volume buttons sometimes suddenly don’t work anymore;
- TV button (when pressing once I go back to the main home screen, pressing twice lets me close apps) suddenly doesn’t work anymore;
- occasionally scrolling with the RC in the YouTube app suddenly doesn’t work when using the touchpad part but still works with the buttons (up left right etc).
When testing the second annoyance with my iPhone remote app it also doesn’t work (which rules out a falty remote control imo).
Things always work again after doing a reset of the device or disconnect/reconnect of the remote controller.
Do more people over here have the (exact) same annoyances?
Could it be software related or hardware related?
I’ve got one. Even though hdmi control is off it still takes over my system when switching sources. If I’m playing ps5, which is connected to tv, and switch to my stb which is connected to the receiver, apple TV comes on and I have to turn it off and switch back to stb that I had already selected 45 seconds ago.
Try repairing the remote.
Point your remote at your Apple TV. Make sure that the remote is about three inches from your Apple TV. Press and hold Back (or Menu) and Volume Up for five seconds. If asked, place your remote on top of Apple TV to complete pairing
If those issues are only occurring when using those apps its mostly the app issue. Try using other apps and if the issue persists then you can narrow down the problem to the hardware.
Sometimes, up or down volume behave as if they are pressed and turn the volume to minimum or maximum.
The buttons are not physically stuck.
I’ve been having the same volume button issue since updating the latest version. They just randomly stop working.
I always have 3 Apple TV devices at any given time, and we upgrade and hand-me-down each gen. I’ve had to reset my remote one time, and I’ve never had any feedback from people downstream having an issue. They aren’t tech savvy, so they’d definitely let me know.
It sounds like something is up with your device, but I’m also totally not familiar with the apps you’re using.
