I have a steam deck and I LOVE IT.

Its comfortable in the hands, battery is good when you can tweak it. I discovered the joy of 40HZ with it and it chews through my 10 years backlog.

However, especially right now with a major bestbuy discount, the ally catch my eye. I have been debating upgrading for a long time but I always do back away at the last minute. Here’s what happens:

-Try to play too much demanding game (BG3)

-Curse the Deck to not have enough power

-Decide to go to bestbuy to buy an open box ally

-Try the ally on-site.

-Look at the gorgeous screen and marvel.

-Hold it in my hands

-Try to play the bestbuy bundled demo. Get turn off immediatly as it is bulky, can’t seem hold it comfortably. Find it heavy but it might be because of bestbuy security metal holder.

-Fumble with Windows controls because I try to use it as a deck and fail (I’m an idiot).

-Check the games that WILL use the Ally power and found its…one or two.

-End up not buying it.

-Use moonlight and gamestream to game my hard to run game but I do not find it ideal as I can’t use moonlight on commute.

-Repeat

This damn cycle has been going on since july! Why can’t I just be happy with my deck that I adore??? What could push me over the edge?

Sorry had to vent.

I’d rebuy the Deck, even at the same price with an Ally (or Lenovo’s whatever) just because of trackpads and to support gaming on Linux and the amazing Steam input. That is well worth some shitty extra eye candy and FPS, for some newer game that I’d probably prefer playing on my PC either way.
