I am a complete noob to these handheld gaming PCs, so forgive the lack of knowledge in my questions.

I have recently broke 2 of my windows PCs, back-to-back over the summer, and I am currently running on my intel Macbook Pro for web dev and light graphical work (mostly illustrator and photoshop). But all in all they are by no means heavy duty tasks, my macbook is handling the tasks just fine albeit feeling slightly sluggish occasionally.

Now that I have ran out of windows PC to do any testing. I am contemplating on a mobile gaming device that can also run some programmes while I am on the go (FYI - I fly away every 2 months, so I am always considering mobility as the priority).

I am quite content to just run some programmes on a small device like this without carrying my macbook with me on short trips. So, my question is, would the steam deck be right for my above use case or are there other alternatives that are better for me? All in consideration that I game while on the plane, and work a bit while I am in the hotel, and do absolutely zero work while I am outside of these 2 places.

Really 16GB is marginal for doing any serious work. Prefer 32GB or more.

Probably not. It’s great for gaming but Probably not for your productivity needs.

Unless you have access or plan to haul a lot of peripherals, I wouldn’t; i.e. mouse, keyboard, USB hub, monitor

I actually use my steam deck for some light school work don’t expect to use word but you can use docs, flvs is fine, and it’s pretty good since I got a keyboard and mouse hooked up to it
