How do you feel about your purchase a year later? Do you care about the newer gesture controls not being available to you?

I feel like I made a great decision getting the Ultra 1 last year. The gesture controls feel worthless to me. If I had the choice today, I’d probably buy an Ultra 1 on sale compared to a brand new Ultra 2.

I don’t think anyone in their right mind would upgrade to Ultra 2 from Ultra 1.

My Ultra 1 is still as good as new after 1 year. Battery at 100%, looks as good as new despite dropping it several times while running.

Wait how are you dropping it when running? The reason I ask is because I just got a gen 2 partially to track my runs and wanted to know if I should be cautious in some way to not drop it running.

No one in their right mind should be upgrading their $800 watch for at least 3-4 years…

At least my perspective as a AWU1 owner, if it can’t last 4 years and maintain It’s longevity for that long it’s not worth it ¯\(ツ)

True for Apple Watch as there isn’t much added in upgraded versions.

But for iPhones, I’m tempted to upgrade at least once every two years. 😛 Mostly because of the good trade-in value.

After watching those durability tests online, (and having Apple care) I smack the shit out of my watch constantly to show people it’s near indestructible. Considering my career in psych involves restraining patients at times, durability is very important. And it performs like a champ.

Gen 2 user here. Don’t think that the gesture is a game chager. I rarely use it. Most of the times I forget it exist. Only handy when I carry something or my hands are dirty and have to answer the phone.

I agree it’s not a game changer especially since there’s gesture support on previous watches but the times you used the feature is basically it’s intended purpose for most people. Gestures aren’t supposed to take over as the main way to control the watch.

No, the AWU2 is not worth the upgrade from the OG version. Will upgrade next year (if there are major enhancements)

The gestures are just something I look forward to next time I upgrade. The GPU improvements are my biggest regret but even that isn’t huge for me. My 1st gen ultra is still great despite some of the odd UX changes in WatchOS 10.

Why would I? My watch is not a priority for me to upgrade every year, even the iPhones is not significant enough for me to upgrade every year. I came from the series 4 and I think I’ll buy a new one when the Ultra 6 came out.

Day one owner, very happy. Has absolutely lived up to what I wanted/expected it to do. Also the Ultra Watch 2 is also probably the first time I’ve felt really happy with my current device, especially now it’s more expensive ($100 AUD more).

I only picked up my AWU1 in June, but it certainly worth the money to me to upgrade to the AWU2, let alone for the newer gesture controls.
