I’ve always liked 12"-13" for notebooks. I had a 15" at one point and it was really just too big for what I wanted it for. I wasn’t an Apple customer when the 12" PowerBook G4 was being sold, but on paper, that’s probably still the best notebook I might have ever owned. (Instead I started with the 13" MacBook).
