some games get really janky and laggy when i set them to 40hz or limit the fps to 40hz, it really feels like i’m playing at 20fps, what causes that?

    Probably not the case, but see if when you set the display to 40hz, the FPS lock stays at 40, not 20.

    It does depend on the game, some of them tie physics or game speed to the frame rate so anything under what it’s expecting is a bad experience. PCGamingWiki would generally call this out.
