Hi all,

With the announcement of the OLED, I want to replace my existing deck.

Is there an easy way to convert all my mods/adjustments, etc. to the new one? If my emulators and roms are stored on an SD card, will the transfer be as simple as removing it from one deck and placing it into another?

Thanks!

I would recommend neither. Just copy over USB or network the home folder, if you left the OS partition as read only than all the steam stuff should transfer easily. Non-steam programs like lutris or ProtonGE or emulators might need to be reinstalled but their settings should all transfer. The new deck is fine with opening & closing but the LCD decks never go back together (big improvement in how they are screwed together)

Exactly what I was wondering. I would assume that you can just plug your current SSD into the new deck and it would be good to go. But not sure if drivers for the new hardware in the new deck would cause problems. I’d love to just order the new deck, swap the SSDs, and not have to set everything up again. I’m sure someone will inevitably try it

With the current model you simply swap the SSD over but who knows with the new one

You should be able to copy your home folder to another deck and be done with it.

while this maybe one of the more difficult ways to move everything, it should work fine as long as they are both on the same version of steamOS.

You might have issues if you use a pre-3.5 build on OLED or not boot properly

I would assume it would be as plug-and-play as we think, right? Just taking out the SSD and putting it in and bam. Then I can put my old deck in a drawer and show my kids in 20 years
