I bought my steam deck a couple months ago because I was thinking I will have 3 or 4 years before they release a better version. I read everywhere how valve doesn’t plan on upgrading or releasing a new deck for years to come.

And now they release a bigger screen, bigger battery, oled, wifi 6 and probably better thermals?

What gives Valve? I hope to see a trade in.

    this wasnt better version

oled is known for lag , it is pretty but ,soc is same just bit cooler 6nm vs 7nm

and memory a bit faster and bit bigger bat

so overall for that money it is same or in ±5% speed difference

next one will probably have zen 5 version of z1e chip

Your fault for listening what the Verge extrapolated from what Griffais said? 🤔

Bigger screen is bad in this case bc pixel density is already bad at 7“ with 800

No it isn’t, lol. Steamdeck has 200+ ppi. Twice as much as a 27in 1440p monitor. 800p is literally perfect.

“Valve has been clear it wants to build a Steam Deck 2 — and equally clear that a faster handheld wouldn’t arrive soon. Now, Valve’s Pierre-Loup Griffais tells The Verge and CNBC that it could be late 2025 or beyond before it raises that bar — because it wants to see a leap in performance without a significant hit to battery life.”

    https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/21/23884863/valve-steam-deck-2-refresh-upgrade-cpu-2025

Though this version is a bit faster than the previous one, it should be pretty clear that this is not SteamDeck 2, as /u/dreamWeaver82 said.

    Dick move IMHO.

This “revision” is new hardware. This is a PC, not a console that are limited to the same performance

Steamdeck OLED is a higher performing PC that OG SteamDeck, meaning access to more games.

This is new, higher performance hardware in every way that is relevant to PC gaming and then some.

Its not just a better screen. Its not just cooler apu, its not just bigger battery.

    2025 my ass.

I appreciate the upgrades, but that was a scummy statement, especially for those who just got out the return window.

There is a protest march outside Pierre-Loup Griffais’ home later tonight. Details on Steam Deck community page.
